Symptoms

Symptoms arising from the heart can be thought of as four main types:

Chest pain arising from the heart is called angina. Usually it is due to narrowings in the arteries that supply the heart muscle – the coronaries…

Breathlessness can occur suddenly at rest or can be brought on by exertion. Sometimes patients just notice a gradual reduction in their exercise tolerance.

Dizziness is a common symptom and often not of concern. It also means different things to different people. Occasionally dizziness becomes severe and can lead to blackouts.

This really does mean totally different things to different people! For most it is an ‘awareness of the heart’ – a sensation that the heart is fluttering, racing, beating irregularly or more forcefully.
