Dr Helen Binns,  Consultant Cardiologist

COVID-19 Pandemic and Cardiology

In this unprecedented situation Dr Helen Binns wants to offer patients the reassurance that as far as possible she will continue to see, diagnose and treat significant and life-threatening heart disease.

All the Northampton cardiologists aim to continue to work (within any temporary individual isolation restrictions) and our current position is that both diagnostic and therapeutic services will continue in both the public and private sector.

Dr Helen Binns will be continuing to provide Cardiology consultation in the private sector at a new venue within Weedon Surgery and in the NHS at Danetre and Northampton General Hospitals for important and urgent Cardiology issues. In some circumstances those consultations can be ‘virtual’ by phone if the patient’s GP is able to provide an ECG, but Dr Binns reserves the option to request a face-to-face meeting in the interests of accurate diagnosis and your safety. Essential investigations necessary to cardiology management including ECHO, 24 hour tapes and myocardial perfusion scans remain available at NGH.

Please feel free to discuss your needs with your GP and with my practice manager Lynne Hollingsworth. Any questions Lynne cannot answer she will refer to me.

Keep safe and look after yourself and others at this challenging time.

I see patients in the NHS and private sector with any cardiological conditions.

My specialist interests within cardiology include coronary disease, valve disease,  nuclear cardiology and heart disease in older patients.

I take part in the Acute Cardiology  on call rota at Northampton General Hospital (NGH) and see outpatients at NGH, Danetre Hospital and Kingswood Consulting rooms. I run a weekly specialist valve clinic at NGH and over many years have developed excellent relationships with my surgical colleagues at Harefield, Coventry and Oxford for patients in need of cardiac surgery.

Among my other roles at NGH I am the Royal College of Physicians Tutor for Medicine, provide Cardiology teaching to Leicester medical students in an Honorary Senior Lecturer role and manage nearly 100 junior doctors in Medicine.

I am a pragmatic doctor and I’m known for explaining often complex conditions to my patients in simple language to help them feel more comfortable and confident. My role is to advise people on how to improve their health and prognosis and I welcome patient’s active involvement in decision-making about investigations and treatment where necessary.
